How to Know God Personally
People today are thirsty – thirsty for the one thing life cannot provide. Life cannot provide GRACE. You cannot buy grace and you cannot earn it. You can’t get it from your parents, by attending church, by being “religious,” or by just plain “being good.”
Grace is a free gift from a holy God, a gift of His “absolute best to those who deserve His absolute worst.”
The Bible (God’s truth for today) says, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” (Romans 3:23). Sinning is a self-centered life that misses the mark of God’s holy standard. It’s what causes inner thirst. When we lie, cheat, hate, lust, and gossip we appease ourselves, but we fall short of God’s perfection.
By sinning we earn death. “The wages of sin is death,” (Romans 6:23). Sinners deserve to die, are separated from God, and cannot quench their inner thirst.
But God, “Who is rich in mercy. . . ” “. . . demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us,” (Ephesians 2:8,9; Romans 5:8). That’s God’s GRACE! Christ took our death penalty for sinning upon Himself and died in our place. To prove that sin and death had been conquered, He came back to life.
To receive God’s grace, you must trust in Jesus Christ alone. “For by grace (undeserved favor) are you saved (delivered from sin’s penalty) through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one should boast,” (Ephesians 2:8, 9). Trust is like sitting in a chair. You trust the chair (and nothing else) to hold you up. Once you trust in Christ (and nothing else) God will give you His grace. Your life will experience satisfaction, peace, and personal worth. You will belong to God forever and will have the assurance of Heaven.
Is there anything keeping you from trusting Christ right now? Would you like to trust Jesus Christ as your Savior? The following prayer might help. Remember that the prayer won’t save you, but it will help you express your trust in Jesus Christ.
“Dear God, I know I’m a sinner. I know my sin deserves to be punished. I believe Christ died for me and rose from the grave. I trust Jesus Christ alone as my Savior. Thank You for the forgiveness and everlasting life I now have. In Jesus’ name, amen.” (From EvanTell, Inc. booklet, “May I Ask You a Question?” by Larry Moyer)
